One of the (many!) fun aspects of my job is exploring beautiful parts of South Australia with a canine companion, and I've gained a few favourite spots for a wonderful walkies. In this blog series, I'll uncover a few-- and maybe even provide inspiration for a future photographic adventure with your furry best friend!
Read on and follow my blog to discover the best dog walks in southern Adelaide and the Fleurieu!

Saluki Sappho at Port Willunga Beach
For our first instalment, we're heading to Port Willunga, to the dog-friendly beach strip and adjacent Port Willunga Linear Reserve. This may be my own dog's very favourite place to run and play, and with beautiful cliffs, jetty ruins and wooded parkland, there's plenty to keep the human senses busy as well!
Some things to know:
Dogs can run free on the beach before 10am and after 8pm, or any time outside of daylight savings. At other times, keep your pooch on-lead for your beach walk. In the Linear Park, dogs are required to be kept on-lead.
The area is home to the endangered Hooded Plover, and it is vitally important to the survival of these special little birds that care is taken when exercising your dog near sign-posted breeding zones.
bins and poop-bags are provided-- but it's always a good idea to bring extras just in case!
Where is it?
Port Willunga is located approximately 50 minutes south of the Adelaide CBD on the Fleurieu Peninsula. There is plenty of parking available, located beside The Star of Greece restaurant and kiosk-- where you can enjoy a refreshment after a long walk with your furry mate!
Why is this walk wonderful?
Variety is the spice of life, and between the beach, the parklands, and ruins scattered throughout both, walkies in Port Willunga can be much more than 'just' a walk on the beach. The location is relatively quiet, though can get a little busy during the warm months, which makes it less overwhelming than some of the more bustling dog beaches further north. With plenty of carpark space and all vital facilities nearby, Port Willunga Beach has the perfect balance of convenience while still feeling close to nature.
